Amir Chakhmaq Square

Places to see in Iran

The Amir Chakhmaq Complex is a popular place in Yazd. It is situated on a square of the same name. The amazing three-storey façade of the structure makes it one of the largest buildings in Iran. It is famous for its symmetrical sunken alcoves that are perfectly proportional and most photogenic around sunset.

When the light softens, and the exterior of the structure is inconspicuously floodlit, this Hosseinieh building becomes the most magnificent place on Earth. Some arcades have been added on its side during the recent renovation to keep traffic away. It is possible to climb to the 1st floor of the structure and admire the views of the square. The other floors are not accessible.

Underneath the Chakhmaq Complex, you will find a bazaar, where you can taste kebabs from the liver. In front of the Hosseinieh stands the huge wooden palm nakhl. It is an important centerpiece for the observance of passionate Ashura commemorations of Shiites.

The Amir Chakhmaq Complex has a caravanserai, a bathhouse, cold water and confectionery. At night, after the sunset, when the building is lit up with orange lighting in the arched alcoves, it turns into a wonderful place. The breathtaking view of this place attracts many tourists.
