Being one of the popular skiing resorts in Georgia, Bakuriani is located in the Borjomi district of Georgia. It lies on the northern slope of the Trialeti Range and is 1.700m above sea level.
The region stretching around Bakuriani is covered by forests mostly made up of spruce. Bakuriani is 30km away from Borjomi and is linked to it by an electrified narrow-gauge railway. It carries the name “Kukushka” and is 37 km long.
The highest point of the resort town used for skiing is the Mount Kohta, which is almost 2.200m above sea level.
The winters are cold in Bakuriani while summers are warm and long. The climate is mostly transitional, but more often humid continental. The average annual temperature is 4.3 degrees Celsius.
The depth of snow reaches up to 64sm during December-March.
Bakuriani also homes the Botanical Garden of the Georgian Academy of Sciences. It is also the home town of Nodar Kumaritashvili, who lived for much his life here and the street where lived was named in his honor after his death.
