In the diverse and beautiful landscapes of Armenia its unique place has the town of Tsaghkadzor, which for Armenians, as well as for foreign guests is one of the most sought places to go in Armenia. The name of Tsaghkadzor - "Valley of Flowers", itself is as a vibrant and attractive as suitable to the town.


Tshaghkadzor is located in Kotayk region, 5 km away from the regional center of Hrazdan, in the north-eastern slope of the Teghenis mountain, around 1800 meters above sea level, in a beautiful valley. A vibrant mountain stream, the transparent air permeated with flowers scent, the dense forest, "acid water" sources arising from the ground, which are saturated with minerals, make Tsaghkadzor a great place for relaxation and entertainment. The climate is favorable and healthy. The average temperature in the summer is +17,8 0C, and in January, -60C: Annual precipitation is 600-700 mm. It is no coincidence that due to such climatic conditions  Tsakhkadzor in ancient times was awarded the attention of the Armenian kings and turned into royal summer residence. 


Tsaghkadzor is not a big town. It occupies an area of 1.5 km2, and the population is approximately 2,000 people, and the town has received the city status only 20 years ago in 1984. In the short period of Soviet-era Tsaghkadzor small village turned into a major resort and sports base, a pioneer of-school children and preschool summer and health resort.


As Tsakhkadzor is located on the same altitude as Mexico City, on the eve of Summer Olympic Games in 1968 in the Mexican capital upcoming, in 1967, just in Tsaghkadzor was built  the general sport complex. Today the sport complex was rebuilt, modernized, and Armenians, as well as foreign athletes preparing here before important competitions. And when the ropeway was built in 1972 in Teghenis mountain slopes, Tsaghkadzor became famous as a ski resort.


After the collapse of the Soviet Union, and Armenia gaining independence, Tsaghkadzor quickly overcame the crisis and became an international center of tourism and sport. In the short period the town of Tsaghkadzor flourished and received a new image and a new look.


Today, the ropeway rebuilt and modernized according to international standards, the ski track with a total length of 30 km, hotel complexes, make Tsaghkadzor attractive both for interested in winter and summer tourism.


Tsaghkadzor is also considered a cultural center in Armenia. It is a common place with high level conferences and workshops. With its traditions and features Writers House is exclusive. In the past here worked and also had their rest prominent writers  Av. Isahakian, D. Demirjian, E, Charents, H. Shiraz, P. Sevak and others.


Kecharis Monastery is the seat of the Kotayk Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church.
